The company has brought its 1.0-litre MPI petrol engine to India in place of its existing 1.2-litre unit petrol, which does duty in the Polo Hatchback. This 999cc, naturally-aspirated, three-cylinder engine puts out 76hp and 95Nm.

The ARAI-tested fuel economy of this engine is 18.78kpl, while the 1.2 unit returned 16.47kpl. The new engine is 18kg lighter and is BS-VI emission norms-ready.

Power is channelled via a five-speed gearbox. The new engine will replace the 1.2 unit in all cars, so it will feature in the Ameo compact sedan shortly. Pricing for the Polo 1.0 MPI range remains unchanged and starts at Rs 5.41 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi) for the Trendline variant. The mid-spec Polo Comfortline costs Rs 6.1 lakh, the Highline is priced at Rs 7.01 lakh, while the range-topping Highline Plus retails for Rs 7.24 lakh.
